The Xbox (Also known as 'Original Xbox') was Microsoft's first video game console. It was released on the 15th of November 2001 in North America, the 14th of March 2002 in Europe in Australia and the 22nd of February 2002 in Japan.
It was Microsoft's first console they brought into the gaming console market. The Xbox was competing against the Sony Playstation 2, the Sega Dreamcast and the Nintendo Gamecube and was very successful, having great launch titles, PC-like architecture, and more raw power than any of it's sixth-generation brethren.
Xbox LIVE was introduced to the Xbox in November 2002, it allowed users with a broadband connection to play against each other. It competed with the Dreamcasts Online Service but later progressed to competing with Playstation 2 Online. Although Xbox LIVE was a paid subscription service and required broadband, it was still liked better by players because of it's "Buddy lists", better servers, better connection and extremely impressive and exclusive titles like Halo 2, which was the most popular online game of all time on the Xbox.
